You might not be the marrying kind, and that’s totally okay as long as your partner’s on the same page. But how do you know if you’re not meant to walk down the aisle? Here are 13 signs you’re not going to be anyone’s wife.
1. You like having your own space way too much.
We all need our own space to do our own things and have some privacy, and that shouldn’t change when we get married. However, there will be times when you’ll have to be with your partner and share your space if you’re living together.
2. You’re fussy about your spare time.
When you have some spare time, you want to fill it with all the things you love doing. Bear in mind that when you’re married a lot of your spare time will have to be spent with your partner. That’s awesome, BTW, but not for everyone. It might make you feel a little claustrophobic.
3. You see marriage as a piece of paper.
Maybe you want to be with someone for the long-term future but you just don’t feel that you need to be married to them in order for that to happen. Maybe a marriage certificate really is nothing but a piece of paper, in your opinion.
4. You’re restless.
You like to move around a lot. The place you were living in last year has now changed, which is just one example of how you like to shake things up on the regular. This can prove problematic if you get married because you might find that your relationship lacks stability.
5. Your career is number one.
I’m not saying you can’t have an amazing career and a marriage, but let’s be honest: one of them will have to be your priority sometimes because they can’t always be given exactly the same amount of time and energy.
6. You don’t want to compromise.
If you shrivel up at the thought of having to make sacrifices and compromises for your relationship, then marriage isn’t right for you. If it’s your way or the highway, you might be best traveling alone.
7. You don’t trust anyone.
This is something that could change in time, but right now you have trust issues and they’re literally stopping you from being open to marriage. There’s no way you can have a healthy relationship with your lifelong partner if you have trust issues. It’s just not going to work.
8. You’re super independent.
You like looking after yourself and don’t like depending on your partner, or anyone else for that matter. While those can be traits that make you a great partner, they can cause problems down the line because marriage is about helping and supporting each other.
9. You’re dark about marriage.
Maybe you’ve only ever seen unhappy marriages, such as those of your loved ones. While this in itself might not put you off the idea of getting hitched, if it’s made you very negative about love and commitment that could cause you to turn away from the idea of walking down the aisle.
10. You’ve never dreamed of your wedding day.
Now, not every little girl dreams of the perfect wedding day. In fact, the wedding day itself shouldn’t be your main focus when dreaming of getting married. However, it does say something if you’ve never even imagined getting married to anyone you’ve dated in the past or someone who was your ideal partner. It could point to how marriage just isn’t something on your radar.
11. Your life doesn’t have space for anyone else.
You’re so focused on achieving your dreams and going on new adventures that you sometimes feel like you don’t really want to make room for someone to enter your life and be part of your journey. Some call it selfish, you call it living life your way.
12. You like the freedom to walk away.
Maybe marriage freaks you out, as does divorce. One look at the divorce stats might be enough to put you off taking that leap of faith into the unknown. But more than that, maybe you like the idea of not being legally bound to someone. If the relationship falls apart, you can walk away without all the extra drama of divorce.
13. You don’t believe in monogamy.
If you think it’s unrealistic to stay with one partner for the rest of your life, there’s your answer: marriage isn’t right for you.
