We all face disappointment in life. How do we overcome it? You might think there are no possible reasons every disappointment is a blessing. How can your faith help you through it?

In this article, I will explore these questions and more as we discuss how to let go of disappointment and live a fulfilling life despite disappointments.

What does disappointment mean?

It is important to define what I mean by “disappointment.” Disappointment is feeling sadness, anger, or frustration because something did not happen the way you wanted it to happen. It can also be when things are different from what you expected them to be.

You may have heard the saying that there are many reasons every disappointment is a blessing in disguise. Sometimes we get caught up in our emotions that we fail to see the treasure that truly comes in each disappointment.

Is disappointment inevitable?

We are often told that failure is not an option, but sometimes it should be an option.

Every individual in this world has experienced disappointment in some form or the other.

What determines what we get from disappointment is based on how we deal with each disappointment that comes into our lives.

There are so many examples of successful entrepreneurs today who are successful but had to face a lot of disappointments. However, they understood the importance of learning how to overcome disappointment.

When things don’t go as planned and your life turns upside down, you’re forced to rethink what you truly want, and, more often than not, tap into untapped abilities that can help you go on a path that’s more aligned with your passion and purpose.

Many times we hold on to things, people, and ideas that cripple our movement, and God sometimes has to break things apart for us to find our true path in life.

3 Reasons Every Disappointment Is a Blessing in Disguise

1. Disappointment helps to prepare you for the future

Let us be real, this is life so things undoubtedly will go wrong. Yes, there will be a pain. However, there is a way a lesson in even the worst-case scenarios. Finding your purpose is more worthwhile than holding on to pain, setbacks, and disappointment.

You will know the right steps to make. Sometimes when we experience disappointment, it’s not that it is not for us, you just have to learn the right approach to land that opportunity in the future.

This is where you sit and do some self-introspection and instead make choices that will lead to your greater success and happiness.

You just have to believe in yourself, and apply yourself and make that change.

2. Disappointment helps you to be decisive and take action.

In both my personal and professional lives, I’ve had several setbacks, people saying I don’t fit the crowd, application but I decided that I wasn’t going to lay down and play dead.

I have seen where I’ve had to just step out in faith and take action even when I feel so out of depth but I knew that if I want to get a better result I had to be determined to try and try until I see progress.

God’s word kept me motivated, and it is the truth of his word that enabled me to remain active.

You should try to develop resilience so that you can stay optimistic no matter what life throws at you. Things will turn upside down, but how you see your issues and how you respond to them is all that matters.

Always try to have a positive outlook and perceive challenges as opportunities because you are not a failure.

3. Disappointment encourages true revelation

I was brought on some sound principle about praying so I know how prayer works. Many times, we get so excited about our interest that we jump the gun and do things.

Spend some time talking to God and ask for direction. What is bothering you? He already knows but he still wants you to come to him.

The job that you have lost, the friend that you have lost, the debt that you have incurred, the spouse that you have lost, the insecurities that you struggle with, what good can come from it?

After leaving university, I had a huge debt, it took me 18 months to get my first job and the first job I got was only giving me 32,000 Jamaican Dollars that is about 219.04 USD monthly, and my loan was about 30,000. Bear in mind, I had electricity bills, transportation, food, and insurance to pay.

I wanted to give up. I remember going into the bathroom crying, asking myself “ What did I take upon myself”

I felt frustrated, disappointed in myself. It was in these moments being by myself, the scriptures gave me hope.

I had to step out of my comfort zone, realized what my passion was, and started a business around it that was able to help supplement my salary and I was able to pay the loan. If I didn’t find myself in that situation maybe I wouldn’t have started a business.

Pray and listen and God will reveal it. Don’t be too quick to throw up your hand in the air and call it quits.

Nothing you go through in life, in my opinion, should be treated lightly. Every situation should be viewed as a learning opportunity.

Yes, I know it sounds cliché, but failure does not define who you are nor determine your destiny.

So, today, decide on your perspective. What about these reasons disappointment is a blessing in disguise jumps out to you the most?
